In this week's episode, Raquel and Jennifer talk to Elizabeth Mikotowicz. In her 20s, Elizabeth barely survived a very violent relationship which resulted in a severe injury and a prescription from her doctor for opioids that she was not allowed to refuse (she was threatened with child protective services because she was pregnant and refusing medical advice). Elizabeth eventually went to federal prison for a nonviolent drug charge. 5 years ago Elizabeth was painting murals as a federal inmate; now she has had her own art shows and has launched an environmentally friendly clothing brand based on her art. Prison opened her eyes to the systemic racism, cruelty, corruption, and inequality in the US. Now she tries to expose what she witnessed and endured in order to get necessary legislation passed. Elizabeth created her women’s clothing brand (EPM Clothing) during her healing journey and she wants to help people from all walks of life do the same. Elizabeth is also in the process of editing her memoir and creating an adult coloring book based on PTSD and what she has learned from her trauma.
